Kennels
To avoid the disappointment of missing out on a booking during holiday times, please book early, as spaces fill fast.
Your dog will be housed in quite unique facilities that allow them access to individual 60m grass runs directly from their kennels. Freedom to come and go as they please, as well as organised exercise periods.
The added bonus of a rural environment means the dogs are very relaxed and content. The sleeping areas are inside and all dogs get a hammock style bed for added comfort! We frequently leave soft music on to comfort the dogs during the day. We will not accept ANY dog without a current vaccination certificate. (It is compulsory for all dogs to have a kennel cough vaccination).
MENU
A really good time, needs really good food.
Good food provides a nutritious and tasty highlight of the day, we currently provide our cat and dog guests with Royal Canin and Pro Plan food. These are both premium foods, and we often receive comments on the coat and condition of pets when their parents come to collect them. We do have tricks up our sleeve to entice picking guests to eat. You are welcom to BYO food, if your pet has specific needs or tastes.
At Karapiro Pet Lodge, we have a big focus on happy guests, we love our large grass exercise areas, and our guests love having fun in them, sometimes they get a bit dirty…. we do have a grooming studio and hydrobath onsite for those who would like a wash and groom, so they can go home smelling sweet.
Vacination Requirements
For the care and protection of your companion, and also for the other guests we have with us, we must insist on current vaccinations for all our guests. Please ensure you have seen your vet, between two weeks and one year before your holiday for vaccinations. Advise them you will be using a kennel, and need specific vaccinations including Kennel Cough. They will update your vaccination booklet with the vaccine sticker and dates. Please remember to bring this booklet with you when you check in. If you have any questions at all, please consult your vet clinic who will advise you, or feel free to contact us.
There is a standard core group of doggy disorders that are vaccinated against: Distemper, Hepatitis, and Parvo Virus. Depending on the vaccine used, you will have cover for between 1 and 3 years, please be advised by your vet.
What Is Kennel Cough or Canine Cough as it is also called?
Like a Human respiratory infection (a “cold”), Canine cough can cause discomfort and distress to our canine companions, especially older and younger dogs. Like “the cold” or “the flu”, there are a number of different viruses and bacteria that may cause it, meaning it is not a single disease to manage. As with the flu, there are vaccines available that give a level of protection from particular cause of CanineCough. These can prevent, or strongly reduce the severtiy of infection for the recipient.
What Can We Do About Canine Cough?
Parents can ensure our canine companions are in excellent health before their holiday away, and are properly vaccinated. We take great care of our guests while they are on holiday with us. Hygiene is important to us, our daily routine is dedicated to maintaining a safe and sanitary kennel. Bu this doesn’t prevent kennel cough, just as cleaning your home does not prevent the common cold. In the event of a case of Kennel Cough, there are treatments available through your vet, and just like a cold, most of ur recover remarkably well.
